Hi Pidgin Support:
I am writing from Drexel University Libraries’ Systems department. Our
reference staff use PIdgin 2.2.2 for our IM reference and chat logging.
We have Pidgin handling our reference service IM accounts for AIM, MSN,
Yahoo, Gmail, and Meebo. The logs are stored on a SAN space.
Everything has been working well for many months until about 3 weeks ago
when Pidgin began running VERY slowly. I initially thought this was due to
malware infection and/or the age of the computer running Pidgin. But I
replaced the machine with a much newer model and ruled out all malware.
Our local network runs on a gigabit connection and is also working fine.
Eventually I noticed that Pidgin is running at '''350,000k+''' in task
manager. Our sister library has Pidgin setup similarly to ours (ie,
handling the same number of IM accounts and logging to the SAN) but theirs
- which is running fine - is using only around 37,000k.
I just loaded Pidgin on yet another known-good, clean computer and after
running our custom registry editor file (which I know works OK) I found
Pidgin is running super slowly on this machine as well.
I searched the knowledge base of old tickets but came up short. Do you
folks have any idea what the cause of the slowness is? I need to get this
resolved before our Fall term starts. Please help!
Regards,
Chris Wieman
