Comment:

 Have you checked the tray icon preference in pidgin? Is it set to show the
 tray icon? If it is set to, and the tray icon isn't just hidden in the
 'infrequently used icons' part of the tray please get the debug output
 from pidgin starting (by running "pidgin -d" from a command prompt) and
 paste it here.
