 Is there a record of the discussion (irc log, mail thread in archive,
 ...)? So that others can see why and perhaps help with the problem.

 This is what I know: The "Jabber" is a trademark of jabber.org. Thanks to
 legal threats, Pidgin was already forced to rename twice, so it is
 understandable that developers do not want to be bullied for the third
 time. However jabber.org allows usage for many purposes, namely "1.1
 Protocol Names" and "1.2 General Technology References". There is a fear
 that the statement on jabber.org is not legally binding and that
 jabber.org may revoke the permission. However law still allows usages like
 this one, so we will be still safe.

 Pidgin can even apply for the license. (Though I see this as unnecessary.)
 Has anyone tried this?
