Comment:

 The problem is the ca-certs package in ubuntu missing some CAs that
 microsoft uses. If you use nss and the list of CAs shipped by pidgin, you
 won't have this problem.

 If you grab the
 VeriSign_Class_3_Public_Primary_Certification_Authority_-_G5.pem and
 Microsoft_Secure_Server_Authority.pem in the source tarball share/ca-
 certs/ directory, and somehow install them in your system, that _should_
 be enough to get it to work too.
