#7019: "You have dragged an image" dialog box is stupid
---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
Reporter:  endolith  |        Type:  defect
  Status: new | Component: pidgin (gtk)
 Version:  2.5.1     |    Keywords:
---------------------+------------------------------------------------------
 If you drag an image onto a conversation, it pops up a dialog with radio
 buttons:

 ----
   '''You have dragged an image'''

   You can send this image as a file transfer, embed it into this message,
 or use it as the buddy icon for this user.

   * Set as buddy icon
   * Send image file
   * Insert in message

   [Cancel]  [Ok]
 ----

 First, it is very tedious to have to navigate and click twice for every
 image, especially when I have to do it over and over again because Pidgin
 doesn't support sending directories. At the very least, these should be
 regular buttons instead of radios, so it is just one click.

 But why does it pop up this dialog at all?

 If I drag an image into the compose area, I think it's pretty obvious that
 I want to insert it into the compose area. Make sane assumptions.

 If I drag it directly onto the user's buddy icon, ''then'' you can ask if
 I really want to set the image as my buddy's icon. (I have never selected
 this option in the 5 years I have used this program, and if I wanted to
 replace one image with another, it would make intuitive sense to do it by
 dragging a new image onto the image I want to replace.)

 If I drag it into the conversation pane, then I suppose it would make
 sense to ask if I want to send it as a file or insert it, though I think
 most people would be perfectly happy with it assuming that I want to send
 it as a file, and leaving the other two functionalities for the other two
 areas of the UI. If you must ask, make it a dialog with two buttons:

   [Send image file] [Embed in message]

 The stupidest part of all is that it lets me embed an image in a message,
 and then refuses to send it:

   '''Your IM Image was not sent. You must be Direct Connected to send IM
 Images.'''

 Obviously, it should offer to connect automatically.
