Correcting the last part of the last comment:

 Correct.

As an example, if I have the groups Friends, Coworkers and VIP, I would
 get the grouping:

 SAPO
  -Friends
  -Coworkers
  -VIP

 SMS
  -Friends
  -Coworkers
  -VIP

Or as in SAPO Messenger as meta-contacts, having the SAPO and the SMS
 contacts together inside one alias:

 Friends
  -xormlite <IM> <Send SMS>
  -Coworkers
  -VIP

In this last variation of the approch to the issue, the automation would
be in getting together contacts from all protocols for each one nickname.
Note: xormlite can be for example: "xormlite at google.com" for Google Talk
and in MSN "xormlite%google.com at msn.im.sapo.pt". Getting these together
 automatically would also be useful.

I personally prefer the 1st aproach, since for the 2nd aproach one could
mix contacts with the same nickname that are not the same people and the
user could make that organization while he or she is adding contacts very
easily. And the first approach is more intuitive for a user to use.

Image, I now want to send an SMS, I only want to see the group SMS and I
won't need to manage both groups (SAPO and SMS) and sub-groups (Friends,
 Coworkers and VIP).
