I've done a MTN update and recompile on the code in question, which is
from "im.pidgin.soc.2008.vv". That doesn't get me 2.5.1vv, though, because
I guess it does not exist? And hence the problem persists in that code
 branch.

In either case, (*) Fedora upgrade I've done just now has got me running
Pidgin 2.5.1-1.fc9 which does not display the bug either (same as
 pidgin-2.4.3-1.fc9.i386).

To clarify though, I do not think this bug (unlike #6604) was related to
auto-responders, as this one only occurs on startup of Pidgin, and I've
not seen it at any time during normal post-startup usage.

Anyway, it's resolved in the 'main' code tree, so I guess this can be
 closed.

 K.

 *) Having done a "mv /usr/local/bin/pidgin /usr/local/bin/pidgin-vv" to
get the development version out of my $PATH.
