 [http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/communicator/default.aspx Microsoft
 Office Communicator] uses the MSN Messenger protocol for instant
 messaging.

 Things are a little different in other places, though, as it doesn't use
 the MSN Messenger servers. Instead there is a Communicator Server on the
 network.

 The current MSN clients have a setting for whether it is a "Corporate
 Account" or not. With Corporate Accounts, you specify ads\Username for the
 username. (At Indiana University this is done to give Macs access to the
 Communicator IM features -- See [http://kb.iu.edu/data/axeh.html] for the
 Mac instructions at IU.)

 There is a Communicator Web Access interface, but as you may have guessed,
 it is mostly crap when compared to the awesome power that is Pidgin. (For
 instance, Communicator promotes "presence identification", but CWA fails
 to determine presence accurately. -- It thinks if you're not talking to
 someone you're doing nothing.)
