 Ah!  Darn.  I have been using the left/right tabs modes, but one challenge
 there is that I have more tabs (approx 40) than will fit (on a 1280 full
 screen monitor), and it seems that clicking on the "more" arrow clears the
 alerts from the tabs and it's hard to figure out which one actually was
 new.

 Anyway, thanks for the info, much appreciated!
