 try setting this environment  variable

 G_SLICE=always-malloc

 i noticed it seems to slow down, but not stop, the memory growth in #6248

 to look into memory leaks  in pidgin, i think they are in the windows
 glib/gtk implementations and not pidgin itself. or possibly pidgin is
 misusing one of the apis but still.
