Comment:

 It should not be jumping to a larger size until you hit enough lines for
 the box to be full, it looks like that isn't the case in your screen shots
 which means you are hitting a bug. Again, the box should *only* grow
 larger (by a line at a time) *as you type more then the entry box would
 normally fit* so as to give you space for that extra bit of text you are
 typing this time but don't normally.

 If you change GTK+ themes to something else (a non-Windows-alike) does
 this stop? If you change your Windows default font (possibly even just
 away and back) does this stop?
