New description:

 I am using Windows Vista Business with all of the latest patches and
 service pack 1 installed. When I attempt to open Pidgin, the buddy list
 window does not appear. I look at the running processes in the task
 manager and pidgin.exe is running. I have to kill it in order to close the
 program. I have reinstalled several times. Sometimes, for a random session
 the buddy list actually appears and works like normal. Once I close it,
 and try to reopen the program it does the same thing all over again. I
 installed the debug version, and have a copy of the log file attached.
 Please advise...
