Comment(by preacher_g):

 So far, with the "Close IMs immediately when the tab is closed" checkbox
 active (checked) the conversation windows do not close.  Of course it's a
 pain to have to view the logs to see prior conversations, but at least the
 conversation windows seem to stay up now.
