Hey, I noticed new(ish) install instructions for Ubuntu that instruct the
user how to add the Pidgin PPA repository, so that you can get Pidgin
updates through the Ubuntu package manager.

 http://pidgin.im/download/ubuntu/

The problem is, I tried this on three Ubuntu machines and none of them had
a value for the DISTRIB_CODENAME environment variable. (It looks like you
are expecting it to be "intrepid", "hardy", or whatever.) So, a bad line
got added to the source list and apt-get yelled at me when I tried to
 update.

These instructions should be updated so that they don't rely on having the
 DISTRIB_CODENAME environment variable set.
