New description:
I have some friends which are almost always in invisible mode (for valid
reasons) or with which I talk or send offline messages to. Pidgin makes
this use case really hard to cope with since I usually don't keep offline
contacts listed.
In order to send a message to one of the offline/invisible contacts I have
to do the following:
{{{
1. Go to Buddies
2. Go to Show
3. Check Offline Buddies
4. Scroll through the buddy list to the contact
5. Double click the buddy to open the window to send the message
6. Send the message
7. Go to Buddies
8. Go to Show
9. Uncheck Offline Buddies
}}}
Of course, this is soboptimal and I know it can be done via:
{{{
1. Buddies
2. New Instant Message
3. Select account through which I can talk to the friend
4. type in the account id of the buddy (if the name/alias isn't
configured)
5. Send the message
}}}
But this is bad since sometimes I have to know the account ID of the buddy
and sometimes that is hard (everybody has those buddies with weird account
IDs, but which can be recognized, once seen).
OTOH, it would be really nice to be able to have an option to keep some
accounts always in the list, even if they are offline. That would reduce
the operations needed to support the scenario to only:
{{{
1. Scroll through the buddy list to the contact
2. Double click the buddy to open the window to send the message
3. Send the message
}}}
