Comment:

 Pidgin has no control over that; All URLs are passed to Windows (Explorer)
 to deal with.

 As the error message suggests, you should try setting (sometimes
 necessary: unset and the set) the appropriate associations in Explorer.
 Googling that error message will also provide other tips on how to deal
 with it.
