 Actually there are two other bugs here, though you are correct that the
 clipboard one is the most annoying.  One is that when you come back from
 Away, you're not Away anymore, so it shouldn't be leaving your Away
 message there.  It actually doesn't do that when you change from a Saved
 away message, just a typed one.

 The other is more subtle, and I've only more recently discovered it.  When
 you switch from a typed away message to a Saved away message, and then
 switch your status Available, it switches you to the typed away message
 that you had previously had up!  Clearly this is a bug.
