 I certainly would not consider :-[ to mean embarrased, I would certainly
 consider it to be sad, but that's not really the issue here.

 Even if our smiley had a frown you would be 'as wrong' using it to mean
 embarrased then (assuming the person sees the text and thinks sad) as you
 are using it to mean that now. You can not count on interpretation of the
 smiley at all.

 At best we can match the default, we currently don't do that particularly
 well (assuming the link I found is correct) it is that deviation I think
 potentially warrants fixing.
