 I can reproduce this issue. It takes 15 minutes to download the channel
 list from Qnet. Durcing these 15 minutes, my switch is busily blinking
 which means that it actually is the retrieval itself which is so slow, not
 something else. During these 15 minutes, Pidgin does hardly redraw its
 windows, doesn't process user input and uses 100% of my CPU.
