 Users are experiencing problems with respect to this behavior of pidgin.
 Users get disconnected from gtalk(Ticket#5278) and openfire. This happens
 when Pidgin doesn't get the reply for its ping request. I feel that the
 reply is not received because server might be slow and hence could not
 send back the response within 30 sec but this leads to the disconnection
 by Pidgin.
 Please note that server can be slow for arbitrary number of reasons and
 slow server doesn't mean that it will never process your request.
 Disconnection from client is a pure loss of service from the end-user
 perspective.
 How did you decide on the time-out value for these pings? Why can't these
 pings be made configurable or in the worst case atleast timeout is made
 configurable?

 Such configurable options will prevent the disconnections from a slow
 server.
