 OS X makes application installation a very different procedure than do
 both Windows and Linux. Applications are essentially unable to update
 themselves on Linux (nor should they as that is rightly the job of the
 package manager). On Windows, applications are able to run their own
 installers and it would certainly be possible to have the Release
 Notification plugin offer the ability to download the new installer, it
 couldn't be run while pidgin was still running though.

 I don't see any reason we would reject a patch for this though I also
 don't think we have any particular desire to work on it ourselves.
