 Same issue. Started occurring when the AIM SSL option was added. I
 disabled SSL and changed the server from slogin.oscar.aol.com to to
 login.oscar.aol.com (no s in login) and same problem:

 Could not connect to BOS server:
 Connection timed out.

 At the moment it appears to be an issue with AOL but this has been
 happening quite often including Yahoo's chat also not working while XMPP
 continues to work fine.
