 If I run Pidgin in Openbox with Pypanel as my panel, then close Pypanel,
 pidgin instantly closes with this message:

 I was unable to generate a backtrace, because this does not happen when
 running it inside GDB.

 I have also tried doing the same with gnome-panel, and there was no crash.
