 Sorry to put in another update to this, but I wanted to clarify something.
 I realized that the computer I was having problems with was my desktop at
 school. It is an OpenSolaris box running the 2.5.1 package distributed via
 Sun's package manager. It was the same DNS resolver issue where it only
 tried one IP according to my logs and failed.
