 On ubuntu you need to do:
 sudo apt-get install pidgin-dbg libpurple-dev

 This will allow gdb to do a backtrace on pidgin. This may be a duplicate
 of #8594. I'm currently waiting for mine to crash to see if it's the same
 issue. There may be a temporary workaround by using msn-pecan instead of
 libpurple. Check your backtrace and compare it to the one in Ticket #8594
 to see if it's the same issue.
