Comment:

 That may mean a server error or it may mean the shared roster setup is
 disallowing the group change (it really shouldn't mean the latter as that
 should have a different error response, but who knows).

 pidgin is not going to start ignoring what the server tells us, that is
 just wrong and bad.

 You can try adding the buddy to your buddy list again in the group you
 want them to be in, that should work (assuming you can make any roster
 changes on this server at all).

 I am going to close this ticket now though, feel free to reopen it (or
 request it be reopened) if something new comes up.
