 How about this for a ignore-unknown-network-id-users patch?  Since
 libpurple doesn't look like it'll be supporting multiple contacts with the
 same email/passport....

 Case 1:  Unknown Network ID, Different (not unknown) Network ID in the
 user structure.
 Ignore the data that comes through, and clean up;

 Case 2: Known network ID, unknown network ID in user structure;
 Set the network id field (already done below),
 and also reset any lists this contact may be in
 ( since we derived the data from possibly,
 a bad list entry with unknown network ID )

 Case 3:  Conflicting network ID's;
 Warn.

 I'll post this patch up for you to look at.
