 I agree that it is irrelevant to getting this functionality completed, its
 not our decision but yours as a developer, hackel, as to if this is a
 plugin or built-in.  I trust whatever you decide it should be as long as
 it gets done.
 But to answer your question because it is still important, there are a lot
 more people that would use this feature than can be represented here.  I
 can tell you corporate IM is clouded with "Away" users and that finding
 someone that is able to respond (*ahem*) "instantly" is part of what
 appeals us to use IM in our business.  Away users are useless to IM, email
 then prevails.  I hope this was a bit more useful to you.
 I personally believe removing "Away" users from my view vastly simplifies
 my Pidgin experience and I vote for it being in the core product.
