Comment:

Actually, the security repositories for '''netbook-remix''' are enabled
(see above, lines 5&6 of sources.list), I've added the "normal" hardy
repos, but, perhaps not surprisingly, they report no content for arch lpia
 (Atom).

The netbook repos do not have perl 5.8.8-12ubuntu0.4, only 5.8.8-12. Does
pidgin ''really'' need that specific version, or will 5.8.8-12 do the job?
If so, perhaps the PPA spec could be made a bit more permissive? I'm
assuming this is stopping a working pidgin on all NB100's running the
 factory fit Ubuntu-Hardy. I know I could install 9.04,but I understand
there are driver issues with the stock netbook install and the tosh, so
I'm for sticking with what works at the moment.

I may try installing from the standalone packages on getdeb, but that's a
bit of a kop out, and anyway, wont help anyone else. I need to wrestle
with the dev packages before I try to compile from source, as I'm
nominally a Slackware head, and all this "dependency" stuff confuses me ;)
