 I'd suggest (without running this by a developer mind you), that if you
 could quit Pidgin, rename your .purple/blist.xml file and then run Pidgin
 again and see if you get the same error.  It's possible there's some
 corruption in that file.

 And/or: Quit Pidgin, log in to MSN (either via Webmessenger or the native
 client) and it might sort out the synchronisation issue...then try Pidgin
 again...

 ...or a combination of the two!
