 noobzor: Wild guess here, but when you installed Pidgin on the new laptop,
 did you just copy your .purple directory across from the old laptop?  If
 so, there might be some corruption there (in your prefs.xml)...and if so,
 rename/delete the file (whilst Pidgin is not runnng)...it's a long shot!
