 I ''think'' you're running in to the issue in #7284. You should try
 deleting the buddies/group with the official client.

 server under certain circumstances (the details of which I've not been
 able to completely nail down). Once it's added, you're essentially stuck
 with it forever. I've never seen the Yahoo group you mention before, but
 it sounds like it might be something that would have been added

 That said, groups in Pidgin are global--that is, they do not belong to
 specific accounts, but to all accounts which have buddies in that group.
 The groups will not exist on your AIM server-side buddy list (which, for
 the record, we treat as authoritative) until and unless you add an AIM
 buddy to that group.
