Comment:

 I have seen no compelling reason to think that a change is necessary here
 other than that the original poster believes something between three and
 five minutes is better than two minutes, possibly because they routinely
 use a server which cannot respond to a ping within our two minute window.

 I'm open to being convinced that we really should use a longer timeout
 than two minutes, but that hasn't happened yet.

 I fully admit our ping system is sub-optimal, but I don't believe the two
 minute time-out is the problem. The problem is that we treat a single ping
 miss as terminal as opposed to treating a single ping miss as "lag" and
 two or three as reason to terminate the connection. But that's a separate
 ticket entirely.
