 We do realize that the situation is less than optimal, but the problem is
 that Pidgin doesn't deal with the font rendering - that is handled in
 Pango (part of the GTK+ stack).

 You don't have to actually change the font, you should be able to add to
 the fallback list in your `pango.aliases` file (see #604).

 There isn't a whole lot that we can do about this apart from adding some
 additional sane fallbacks to the default `pango.aliases` file.
