 He went on vacation, but he's back now.

 Do you auto-join channels on login? Do you have the History plugin
 enabled?

 One way you can "quasi" get backtraces of Pidgin when it's using all the
 CPU is to install [http://technet.microsoft.com/en-
 us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx Process Explorer]. When Pidgin is using 100%
 CPU, open Process Explorer, find the Pidgin process that's using CPU,
 right click on it and get Properties (I apologize, I'm doing this from
 memory. "properties" is almost certainly not the right term). In the
 Properties dialog, click on the Threads tab, select the thread that is
 using CPU and click on the 'Stack' button. Copy the entire stacktrace to a
 text editor.

 Repeat that a few times (clicking 'stack' and copying to a text editor)
 while Pidgin is using CPU. Hopefully that will be helpful.
