 I attached the output of those commands. It seems to say that Pidgin is in
 /usr not /usr/local. Also added locate pidgin | grep /usr/local. I have
 files in /usr/local/lib/pidgin but only 7 of them (all in
 /usr/local/pidgin/perl) and then a bunch of pixmaps.
