New description:

 Hi

 I have Ubuntu 9.04 and pidgin was working fine for a while.
 Then at some point I started noticing that people I added were missing
 their icons. I have version 2.6.1. Tried installing and reinstalling, no
 luck there.

 Tried cleaning the icons directory from .purple and then reinstall. Did
 not work. The icons directory is now completely empty. I have my own
 account in my buddy list, and I do NOT cannot see my own icon.

Comment:

 I've installed the newest version of pidgin 2.6.1 and I have the same
 problem.
