Comment:

 For the record, based on reading the strace log, it looked a lot like the
 issue was the nautilus integration plugin (about 25 seconds pass where the
 only stuff Pidgin is doing is writing a file to ~/.nautilus/), which is
 why I suggested it.

 It's strange that it disappeared all on its own; I'll leave this pending
 in case you can reproduce it. If the ticket closes before then, just
 comment and we'll re-open it.
