#10129: Auto-merge contacts by giving them the same alias fails
------------------+---------------------------------------------------------
Reporter: dirk | Type: defect
Status: new | Component: pidgin (gtk)
Version: 2.6.1 | Keywords: contact merge alias
------------------+---------------------------------------------------------
Since Pidgin 2.5 or so, aliasing a contact to the same name of another
contact pops up a dialog stating

''You currently have 2 contacts named John Doe. Would you like to merge
 them?''

In Pidgin 2.6.1, when the ''yes'' answer is chosen (either by clicking
''yes'', hitting ''alt+y'' or pressing ''Enter'') the contact is renamed.
The equal named contacts, however, are not merged; there are two contacts
with the same alias. The expected behaviour is that there is 1 composite
contact. In 2.5.5 this procedure worked as expected.[[BR]]
I'm running Xubuntu 9.04(jaunty) and I verified this bug by building from
 source with options

 ''./configure --prefix=$HOME --disable-consoleui --disable-screensaver
 --disable-gtkspell --disable-gestures --disable-farsight --disable-vv
 --disable-meanwhile --disable-avahi --disable-idn''
