Comment:

 There's little we can do here. Those groups and the members are being
 forced on you by your XMPP server (which is using something called "Shared
 Groups", which makes sure everyone has all the same people on the buddy
 list/roster).

 These changes persist until you log in again because Pidgin doesn't
 currently notice when the server rejects the attempt to move a user
 between groups.

 You can check with your IT department and ask if there's something you can
 do to get around this.  We have seen a number of complaints from Oracle
 employees about this same issue.
