 I was using Pidgin 2.10 (installed when I bought an Elonex OneT)

 On 6 December 2009 I could connect and chat quite happily on MSN ... on 7
 December I started getting the message "Our protocol is not supported by
 the server".

 On 8 December, I managed to upgrade to '''Pidgin 2.5.2'''. Firstly, when I
 tried to connect, I got message: "Connection error from notification
 server: Unable to connect" ... then the message reverted to "Our protocol
 is not supported by the server"!

 I am not using AVG or any kind of firewall on this netbook. Apart from the
 upgrade to Pidgin, nothing has been changed on it since purchase.
 Something network-wise or MSN-wise seems to have changed between 6 and 7
 December.

 I have noticed several tickets closed and the recommended fix is upgrading
 to versions above 2.50, but that has not worked in my case.
