 Have you tried using cs122.msg.sp1.yahoo.com:5050 with Pidgin. If old
 yahoo messenger uses that server, the server probably runs the old yahoo
 protocol, which we do not support anymore. Wont hurt trying anyways.

 Also, you can try using your email address instead of the id, and see if
 it works.

 Does Yahoo messenger 9 works with this account, if not you should contact
 Yahoo! instead.

 If Yahoo messenger 9 works, it will help to provide us with the packet
 capture of your logging attempt for both Yahoo messenger 9 and Pidgin.
