 There is a reason that the slippery slope is a logical fallacy, I really
 doubt this is the first step to "glorified interactive TV cable boxes
 where we can only do what's allowed".  It does, however, demonstrate a
 mildly disturbing 'father knows best' mentality that contradicts with the
 nature of Free Software.

 Aside from that, you make a good point.  It is important to empower the
 user whenever possible. Still, Pidgin isn't a dedicated IRC client - many
 of the people who use it won't be well-versed in IRC netiquette.

 I certainly don't think that disabling the feature is the best option,
 however. There is nothing wrong with discouraging a user from doing
 something like that, but I think you should really consider how you go
 about doing that.
