 I've been getting this with all of my MSN contacts messaging me, so
 tweaked some settings.

 Primarily, I disabled "Use HTTP Method" and this SEEMS to have fixed it.
 It's been working fine for the last day and have asked my contacts to let
 me know if they get the message.

 We don't run a proxy and I've set both Pidgin & MSN account to "No Proxy",
 running 2.6.4.
