 Not sure, I've seen this with Yahoo accounts, but I don't use others.

 Have somebody in your list who's ID is displayed as is.
 Set an alias for that buddy.
 Try to unset the alias, with the intention to see in the list the buddy's
 actual ID. Setting an empty alias makes no change. (IMO should clear the
 alias and display buddy ID).
 The only current way to see the ID in place of the alias is to manually
 type the ID as an alias.
