 If you can't kill the process, that would really be an OS issue of some
 variety.  There isn't anything that a process should be able to do to
 avoid being killed.

 You can disable the automatic startup of pidgin by removing the
 `HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CurrentVersion\Run\pidgin` registry
 key.

 Then you should be able to get the debug log and see where it is hanging.
 I bet it is some incompatible DLL in the system path (possibly caused by
 !UltraEdit or PHP).
