Comment(by deryni):

We have negative interest in making message spam possible (and there are
plugins that can do that already).

Sending a file to multiple people is perhaps somewhat valid, but IM file
transfer is really not a good system for file distribution.

Also, as you indicated they are not among the most frequent of activities.

A list of 2000 contacts that is not already divided into manageable groups
is rather likely to be unwieldy regardless of this feature. Also, imagine
getting half way through your multiple selection and then forgetting to
hold control and losing the selection you already have, not allowing
multiple selection forces you to work in atomic actions.

I can't imagine that many people are really searching for clients based on
the availability of multiple selection, and if they are then they are
welcome to use clients that better suit their needs.

I don't know with certainty the amount of work that would be involved in
supporting this feature, but I imagine it would not be entirely trivial
(though I may very well be entirely wrong about this). If someone who had
a clear sense of what actions do and do not make sense in the multiple-
selection case wanted to create a patch for it I would be willing to
review the patch and if the changes are sufficiently minimal and people
believe it to be of use I would not block its acceptance.
