 I'm not familiar with the Pidgin source, but rather than catching the
 failure and retrying, could we do what gnutls-cli-debug does and check
 what protocols a server supports before connecting? If TLS 1.1 is not
 supported and TLS 1.0 is, force TLS 1.0 for the connection.
