Comment:

 Ok I finally fixed the problem.  The issue was that when you send or
 receive a message, Pidgin plays a sound file.  I didn't have sound
 drivers.  So when I disabled sounds in pidgin, it didn't freeze.  Now I
 installed sound drivers and everything works fine.
