 I actually don't see how this can possibly be the quit message, anyway,
 after some code examination.  That string is well-sanitized long before it
 gets to that point.

 If you're having lots of crashes, that's not right, and indicates there's
 probably another issue.  Pidgin should essentially never crash.  This
 crash actually looks to me like it's probably in the chat userlist code.

 What plugins do you have loaded?
